Girls Town chosen to Participate in
Local Employees’ Combined Federal Campaign
Government employees have option to
donate to Missouri Girls Town directly from
their paychecks through the Combined Federal
Campaign. After an application process,
Missouri Girls Town was chosen to
participate locally with this program, which
includes all government agencies in Audrain,
Benton, Boone, Southern Calloway, Camden,
Chariton, Cooper, Cole, Gasconade, Howard,
Miller, Moniteau, Monroe, Morgan, Osage and
Randolph counties. The mission of the
Combined Federal Campaign is to promote and
support philanthropy though a program that
is employee focused, cost efficient and
effective in providing all federal employees
the opportunity to improve the quality of
life for all. The Combined Federal Campaign
is the world’s largest annual workplace
charity campaign, with more than 300 local
campaigns throughout the country and
internationally to help raise millions of
dollars each year. Pledges made by Federal
civilian, postal and military donors during
the campaign season (September 1 to December
15) support non-profit organizations that
provide health and human service benefits.
Our hope is that through participation in
this program, current supporters of Girls
Town can be made simple and new donors can
be generated. |

Missouri Girls Town Goes Tech Savvy
In the age of the Ipod and international phone calls via
the internet, Missouri Girls Town has gone tech savvy as well. A twitter
account
(@MoGirlsTown)
is updated a few times a week with relevant
information about the happenings of Missouri Girls Town. In addition to
allowing friends and supporters to stay connected, this Twitter account will
also give Girls Town a voice on one of the fastest growing social sites of
this time. It is an important part of modern-day brand marketing. According
to Nielson ratings, Twitter use has grown 1,444% in the last year. Girls
Town needs to be a part of that growth!
An aspect of technology that
Missouri Girls Town has been involved with for awhile is the eScrip service.
Supporters of Girls Town can receive a FREE eScrip swipe card and whenever
they use it at participating business a portion of their total purchase
comes back to Girls Town. There is no cost to the card-holder. Schnucks
Grocery Store is one of the major supporters of eScrip cards. Schnucks
Stores have teamed up with Kraft to offer an additional 3% of the purchase
price back to Missouri Girls Town. Any Kraft brand product at Schnucks
qualifies when using a Missouri Girls Town eScrip card. If you are
interested in learning more about this option or receiving a Girls Town
eScrip card please email Elise White at
ewhite@mogirlstown.org.
The Missouri Girls
Town website is also in the process of being redesigned. Mike LeGay, of St.
Louis, has been working closely with Girls Town’s Public Relations and
Development Coordinator to make the website more aesthetically pleasing and
user-friendly. The goal is for the new website to be available for access in
a couple of months. Please keep watching for our website “face-lift.”

Girls Town residents begin their own GFWC junior
chapter on campus
The New Year launched a new student club on Campus when
the GFWC Callaway Juniorette Club was officially inaugurated in January --
sponsored by the GFWC Tuesday Club of Columbia, a member club of the Greater
Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC). The Callaway Juniorettes is only the 2nd
Juniorette Club in Missouri to be installed under the charter of GFWC, one
of the worlds oldest and largest women’s organization dedicated to community
improvement through volunteer service. Fourteen charter members were
installed during the last school year and 11 new and returning members
signed in at the first meeting (September) this school year.
GFWC Juniorette Clubs (membership restricted to Jr.
High and High School-age young women) have been embraced by GFWC clubs
around the world as a tool for recruiting young women into the rewarding
work of community involvement and improvement.
The Callaway
Juniorettes began meeting last winter and selected their name and logo – We
Are Stars; voted for charter officers, and launched projects for the year
which included creating valentines for veterans, decorating and planting
flower pots for seniors in residential care and developing keepsake books
for graduating seniors. Monthly campus meetings, led by two advisors from
the GFWC Tuesday Club of Columbia, include leadership training and
group-process development to help introduce members to active community
participation through volunteer service. Neoma Hammond, a Club Advisor and
Tuesday Club president says “above all, the meetings and activities must
grow out of the members’ interests and must be fun!!” With fun in
mind, the second club meeting in October will focus on new projects for this
school year that will “make a mark” for the Club and show the power of group
consensus building. Members are encouraged to consider the responsibilities
of leadership and the value of group decision-making. Volunteers from GFWC
Tuesday Club of Columbia, the sponsoring club, have signed on to provide
talks, demonstrations and support for Juniorette special interest topics,
such as art projects, special lectures, and career development. One
highlight of the club’s inaugural year was the opportunity for Brittany, the
first Juniorette Club President, to attend the closing dinner of the GFWC
State Planning Convention in Jefferson City. The GFWC Tuesday Club of
Columbia was recognized by the convention for establishing the Juniorette
Club.
