Missouri Girls Town Foundation, Inc.
We must become the change we want to see. -Mahatma Gandhi
Since
1953, Missouri Girls Town has maintained the same core mission: "Missouri Girls Town Foundation, Inc.’s mission is to create a loving and stable environment for the care and treatment of our clients, so that each young woman may gain a new start in life."
It is a mission that defines who we are, what we do, and why we
can say confidently that Girls Town is a home "where caring counts."
Founded by the General
Federation of Women’s Clubs of Missouri, Missouri Girls Town is a
residential treatment facility for girls, ages 8-21, who have been sexually
abused, physically abused, or severely neglected. Our mission is to create a
loving, stable environment for the girls’ care and treatment and, in the
process, help them develop the life skills they will need as adults. The
young women at Girls Town resolve personal and emotional trauma with
assistance from professional counselors and therapists on staff. Equally as
important to their treatment, these girls live in an environment that
emphasizes the normal process of growing up through group living, education,
wholesome activities, and work.
Today, Girls Town remains focused on providing the highest level of support
in residential care and outpatient settings for abused and neglected girls, ages
8-21. Our goal is to help each of the young women in our care overcome the
trauma of abuse and neglect and gain a new start on life. With a budget of
over 2.5 million dollars per year, Missouri Girls Town is licensed to
provide services to 56 girls at a time. To provide those services, the Missouri
Girls Town residential facility employs 70 full-time and 20 part-time employees.
Missouri Girls Town is located in central Missouri, just off Interstate 70
between Kansas City and St. Louis.
